The fly fishing is good in Phoenicia! The Esopus Creek is noted for its rainbow trout in the spring and its native brown trout in the fall. There’s even a fly fishing tournament in May (visit the Phoenicia Supermarket for details). For those of you who have always wanted to try fly fishing, a local guide gives lessons at Morne’s Imports on Main.
“Menla is an amazing place to spend time. Delicious healthy food, comfortable bed, beautiful scenery, nature. Of course, some of my favorite teachers were there too… Krishna Das, Sharon Salzberg and climbing to the top Bob Thurman. Thanks to the staff who made it possible to enjoy such an inspiring place on this planet.”

“Your facilities and location are outstanding for retreats, and the staff are incredibly courteous and helpful. Being in the mountains, wandering along the streams and paths and disconnecting from the business of our daily lives was wonderful. Thank you for creating such a welcoming and warm environment.”

“The food was fantastic, the pool was very relaxing, and the setting was spectacular! I suggest hiking the Metta Loop Trail when you are there. On the Menla property you will see lots of wildlife, such as deer, possums, and small bears that are harmless and used to our presence.”
