Menla Online: “Look Yet Again” Practices to Find Friendship and Compassion in The Yoga Sūtra

June 12 - June 16, 2020

Mary Taylor

Richard Freeman

Through movement, meditation and lively discussion of Patañjali’s Yoga Sūtra we will explore how embodiment, balanced breath and sharp observation can provide insight into oneself and the essential connection to others. Through gentle movement integrated with gaze and the breath we will drop into the present moment and discuss interesting parallels and language differences between this classic yogic text and teachings of the Buddha. We will explore practices that wake up the vastness of heart and mind, which will give us immediate experience through which we can show up fully for life. In each class of this two-class offering we will practice yoga and embodiment forms with simple pranayama exercises followed by theory and a meditation practice. The classes are appropriate for students of all levels of practice who have an interest in the fascinating interlinking theories and forms of yoga and Buddhism.
